what is homeopathy?

where does it come from?

Homeopathy comes from the Greek words omoios -similar, and pathos -disease.  Written about by Hippocrates, (c.460-c. BCE).  Although not developed until Samuel Hahnemann in his first full description, 1811, many physicians over the intervening years attempted to include the homeopathic principles.  Paracelsus, (1494-1541), knew of the central idea – ‘like cures like’ but it was only Hahnemann who developed the full holistic manual.  He included all his thoughts on public hygiene, good and fresh food, care for the mentally sick as well as treating the everyday ailments.  He was the first to understand the importance of a healthy mind and body.  His approach to mental health is still outstanding and is a relevant today as it was then, preceeding Freud and Jung and in a more compassionate and holistic framework.

homeopathy today

Over 200 million people worldwide use this holistic medicine for both acute and chronic conditions. Homeopathy is both affordable and accessible in its reach to many developing countries.

Uniquely homeopathy does not borrow from Eastern philosophies, nor appropriate cultural uses of herbalism from any tradition.  It grew out of a young physician’s distaste for using strong chemicals on his children.  He saw first hand the horrors of a war-torn Germany and worked as a locum gradually developing his practice of homeopathy.  In this way, homeopathy began as a practical solution not a theory without foundation.

Today, homeopathy still uses the same approaches, methodologies and medicines (remedies) that Hahnemann created.  It is happily still working and applicable today.  The unique idea of like curing like has created many remedies over the years.  Not one has ever been recalled or deemed unsafe.
